Betting odds for title, why are newcastle in it?!!?

    Q) I saw the betting odds for the title on sky sports news yesterday and it made me angry!! Ok, arsenal, liverpool, man u and chelsea are always going to be there, i fully accept ad understand that, but why is the 5th club in the betting ranks alwats bloody newcastle?!! its a joke, when do they ever do anything other than throw thousands of pounds a week at 'big name' players (think owen!). It really p**ses me off, why are they always high in the betting odds, someone please tell me!

    A) it pisses me off to they shud be in the relagation odds. but i find it funny how they always sign big name strikers eg. owen, luque, kluivert etc and the fans all turn out at the stadium for there unveiling and they all think this is the year and all that shit, but they totally forget there defense is crap. and all the new strikers get injured or play shit. alan smith will get injured and joey barton will get sent to jail and that will be a another waste of money.

Where to Find Historical Tennis Betting Odds?

    Q) Hi, I'm looking for sources of historical betting odds, for players to win the tounament outright from the beginning of the tournament. I have found historical odds for individual matches, just looking for past 'outright winner' odds from the last five years in any or all major tennis tournaments, for both men and women. It doesn't have to be free information. If a paid service can provide all the data, that is ok. Thanks for your time.

    A) I don't think that there is anything that has a record of the betting odds, but if there is google.com is the only hope. I really dont' see them keeping the betting odds for a long time.

    Q) how have liverpools odds on winning the champions league changed after each game in the knock out stages (approx)? A) we are now 3-1 to win the CL. It has changed dramatically because we are 3-0 and pretty much gauranteed football in the Semi's whereas all the other teams are far from being through yet. PSV are now 150-1

Can someone explain how betting odds work?

    Q) I'm looking at x-factor, and one act has odds of 4/1 to win, and one has 40/1 to win, and I have no idea what that means!

    A) It is all based on what is called Over-Round which is basically the bookie's profit. This is why prices are changing constantly. If a lot of money is put on a certain outcome, it becomes "the favourite" and the price is shortened (i.e. made smaller) and that of the others are pushed out (i.e. made bigger). This is a very complex mathematical formula which basically works out that no matter which "horse" wins, the bookie will pay out £100, but have taken in £110 in bets. That's the theory anyway, but in practice a sudden large bet can completely wreck their formula and that is when they get hammered. In general, they are very happy when the favourite loses and here is why - using your example prices... Singer A is 4/1 - so for every £1 you bet, you receive £4 back. Singer B is 40/1 so for every £1 you bet, you receive £40 back. That looks like the bookie would prefer Singer A to win doesn't it? But the sting comes because you also get your initial stake back! Sooo.... To win £100 On Singer A you need to bet £25, but on Singer B, you only need to bet £2.50. Now, if Singer B wins, the bookie pays out his £100 that is his expected payout and only has to give you £2.50 back out of the £25 which he has taken on Singer A. A profit to him of £22.50 If Singer A wins though, he has to pay out £100, but also return a stake of £25, but has only collected £2.50 to cover that. Obviously, in this example, you have to assume that the £100 has been collected from "unseen" bets as in a 2 horse race, odds would never be so high. Hope that explains it clearly and hope I have not given you massive overload of detail!

What betting odds would I get for Liverpool to win the Premiership,?

    Q) Chelsea to be relegated, Arsenal to win Champions League and Man Utd to actually buy a decent player

    A) 15 to 1.

    A) 1-1

why are betting odds in britain given as 6/4,yet in usa it is 3/2? its the same thing!!?

    A) As far as im aware there are no hard and fast rules but i belive it to be tradition. For instance ladbrokes.co.uk will give odds of 6/4 whereas gamebooker.co.uk will use 3/2. The odds can equally be expressed as a decimal (2.50). Decimals i find to be the easiest avaliable way to express odds. 2.50=bet 1 win 2.50 (including the stake). But essentially remember that the odds are the same in each case it is simply which you find easiest to understand.

When can I find a log of past sports betting odds?

    Q) I'm doing a project on old sports wagering odds and statistics. Where would I find a printed log of past betting lines?

    A) www.betexplorer.com is excellent if you are only interested in football (soccer) odds. For past odds on all events on betfair's exchange you can use http://data.betfair.com/

    How do betting odds work?

    Q) I know if if someone is 5-1 odds to win that means if you bet 100 dollars you get 500, but how does it work if the odds say -180 or +1100? I know in football if a team is -3 it means they have to win by 3 points to cover the spread but I don't know how this +/- works in stuff such as Boxing or American Idol.

    A) The person/team with the minus sign next to their price is the favorite and the one with the plus sign is the underdog. If you have Team A listed as -450 and Team B listed as +300, you have to bet $450 on the person/team who is -450 to win $100. Likewise, you win $300 for betting $100 on the person/team who is +300. In this scenario, person B is the underdog expected to lose. You can bet on a team to win a single game, or you can go onto the "futures" section of any sportsbook such as bodog.com or bookmaker.com. In this "futures" section you can bet on a team to win a series or even to win the world series. If you bet $100 on the Golden State Warriors to beat the Mavs in their NBA Playoff series you would have got them at +1500, a huge underdog, but they won and you would have cashed in for $1,500!! Good luck!

please explain betting odds rules and regulations?

    Q) I would like to make a bet on a boxing match and don't know how it will be paid if the odds are 14/5

    A) Well, the odds of winning differentiate depending on the what the sporting event is. In your case boxing... Boxing is a do or die type of bet. However if the odds of winning are 14/5 you have a bad chance. Put it this way, 14/5 is like 200/1 meaning that your odds are like 200 bets to one bet. You can try this bet but be careful because you may not know what the final turnout is. However, odds are so unpredictable even I could be wrong. Good Luck and Im glad to help.

    A) Hillary Clinton 15% Condezzela Rice 20% John McCain 50% Howard Dean 10% Rudy Giullani 35%

How do the betting odds on boxing work?

    Q) Ive never betted on boxing before, how does it work? What does Maryweather -180 mean for example? etc.etc.

    A) With every sporting event, there is a favorite and underdog. All favorites are going to be negative and all underdogs will be plus. The way to read it is if Mayweather is -180, then you are going to have to be 180 dollars to win 100. If De La Hoya is +160, then you can bet 100 dollars to win 160. Since the favorite is more likely to win, you're going to have to bet more to get paid out because there is less risk involved in betting on the likely winner. I believe in boxing, most favorites do come out victorious so keep that in mind. I suggest not betting on boxing because it's pretty damn corrupt.

    -120 betting odds?

    Q) What does this mean?

    A) It requires $120 to win $100 rather than the traditional $110 to win $100. In other words, the side is favored more heavily than normal. Bookies do this when one side is receiving more bets, but they don't want to move the game off of a critical number, such as -3 in football. This difference is not trivial. Where the normal juice requries a winning percentage of 52.39% to break even, at -120 you would have to win 54.54% of the time, or 2 more games per 100. It also represents a payback of only 83.33% rather than the traditional 90.9%.

    how does betting odds work?

    A) In horse racing for instance, the bookmaker decides which horse is most likely to win (the favourite). If it is a three horse race, the favourite would be probably 1 - 4, the second favourite 1 - 1 and the third 3 - 1. Once betting starts, if he receives a large bet on the second favourite, he may cut the odds to 1 - 3 and increase the favourite to the same 1 - 3. This continues until just before the off when he balances his books. He may offer the favourite at 1 - 1 just before the off to ensure that he does not lose. In, say, a boxing match, he will do the same 1 - 5 on his first choice and 1-1 on the second. When betting begins, these odds will fluctuate. If it is a draw the bookie wins all, unless of course he took bets on the result being such. (The odds 1 - 3 mean that you put three dollars on to win one, plus your initial bet, so if you win, you get four dollars back).
